GROOTE EYLANDT

Groote Eylandt lies 650km east of Darwin (90 minute flight) and 50km form the eastern coast of Arnhem Land.


It is the third largest island in Australia and it's archipelago encompasses 40 smaller islands. It's unique environment has pristine beaches, spring water swimming holes, woodland, rainforest and sand dunes.

 

The Warnindilyakwa people are the traditional owners of Groote Eylandt archipelago region and are referred to by their language name "Anindilyakwa".

FISHING VESSELS

There are 2 boats in the Groote Eylandt Lodge fleet, "East Wind" and "West Wind".
Both are 7.5 metre Key West fibreglass vessels imported from Florida, USA.
Purpose-built professional fishing boats with twin 150hp outboards,
hard-top canopies, comfortable seating and self-draining decks make them fantastically dry boats in rough weather.
Latest communication technology, emergency activation on VHF radio, EPIRBs, satellite phones and the top of the line navigation equipment from Lowrance.
Under 2C survey, both vessels are licensed to travel 15 and 30 nautical miles off shore.
Surveyed for 4 passengers and 1 crew.


Arrival Day

On arrival you will be greeted by lodge staff with your courtesy air-conditioned coach transfer through the local mining township of Alyangula to the lodge, approximately 20 minutes from the airport.
Friendly staff will meet you at your new home and show you to your room. Once you have settled in, take a moment to look out from your balcony and enjoy the spectacular views across the Gulf of Carpentaria. The afternoon is yours!


Fishing Days

Wake each morning to the breath-taking views of the Gulf. Make your way to the restaurant for the choice of a cooked or continental breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to the marina 10 minutes away.
The waters are alive with marine life and you may get the opportunity to view turtles, dugongs, dolphins and the infamous crocodile in the their natural habitats.
On each of your fishing days you will explore the pristine waters of the Groote Eylandt Archipelago or the Arnhem Land coastline.
The fishing options are endless with over 50 different species on offer. Experience some action packed popper fishing for some of the speedsters of the ocean such as giant trevally (GT’s), queenfish and mackerel. Try jigging for coral trout, mangrove jack, red emperor, tricky snapper, golden snapper, cod and the mighty black jewfish or try some light tackle game fishing for northern bluefin tuna, sailfish or black marlin.
