Island Passage - Vanuatu - Santo - Vanuatu
Vanuatu is a group of some 83 tropical islands scattered over a beautiful and forgotten corner of the world that has been almost lost in time. The land diving on Pentecost, the mystique of Ambryn, the glorious white sand beaches of Santo, the shipwrecks, the volcanoes, the jungles and the villages, Vanuatu has it all.
We operate in the dry season from May through October where you can expect the daily temperatures to average around 25 - 33 C(77 - 90 F) with cooling evening trade breezes. Welcome to paradise, "Island Passage" style!...mothership fishing!!
The "Island Passage" was purpose built in New Zealand to provide travellers with a sense of space, luxury and comfort. Large outdoor teak decks, steamer chairs, bbq lunches, tender boats and kayaks for exploring, fully air-conditioned, helicopter pad and a professional crew to tend to your every need.
Although the vessel has accommodation for just 20 passengers, with Mothership fishing, the fishing packages are kept to 12 clients only in spacious ensuite cabins. Rich timber panelling and hand made furniture abounds. All cabins are fitted with TV, DVD and CD and are individually air-conditioned. Most of the doors open to the outer teak decks. We take pride in the fact that the cabins are amongst the largest for ships our size.
"Island Passage" provides a unique range of blue water sport fishing, game fishing and salt water fly-fishing escapes in the remote island groups in Northern Vanuatu. These six night expeditions allow for five full days of fishing in reasonably sheltered waters.
Available fishing falls into two main categories - blue water gamefishing for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi and sport and fly fishing for GT's, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Coral Trout and a variety of inshore reef and seamount species.
Fishing can be conducted from four vessels - Game boat(if requested at an extra cost), two seven metre Marco centre console/centre cab tenders and a seven metre Commando "landing craft". The centre cab has been set up with outriggers for blue water trolling. Quality Shimano and Sage tackle and accessories are provided onboard along with our fishing guides. All this equipment and vessels are only possible with Mothership fishing.
All billfish will be released, unless the fish is deemed unlikely to survive. We operate on a catch and release policy. Fishing sessions are usually planned for 7.30am to 11.30am with a break for lunch and refreshments, then a further session from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. All times are subject to tide and weather conditions.
In the comfort or our 500 ton luxury ship you can be sure you will receive professional service and important local knowledge from our crew and local guides. Our onboard chef prepares superb meals while a fine wine cellar plus a wide range of spirits, beer and juices are available.
