CY Charters (Albany Island) Drag Screaming Paradise

Friday, August 05, 2016

My friend Tim and myself recently returned from an amazing week staying at Albany Island and fishing with CY Charters.

There isn't too many lodges around that can bost that when you stay with them you get to stay on your very own Tropical Island but with CY Charters this is what you get. Albany Island has no other inhabitants other than the Crew from CY Charters, the wildlife and its guests. The Island has some truly amazing beaches and some equally impressive land based fishing options should you like to explore. There is a 5km walking track that loops around the island where you can take in the beaches and wildlife. The accommodation is excellent and the hospitality provided by Hammish and partner Selene is outstanding and will have you feeling like part of the family in no time. Every night after a long days fishing the food prepared from Chef Connor was also exceptional and no one goes hungry on Albany Island that's for sure. If you feel the need to work off some calories after dinner you can wander down to the end of the Jetty grab a rope and try your hand at wrangling a few sharks and the odd Saltwater Croc with the aim to get the shark up onto the jetty before it lets go of the fish frame or bites the rope in half. Great fun and I actually witnessed one shark making it onto the jetty which was hilarious.

Lets get to the important part the fishing. The one word that comes to mind with fishing with Hammish and CY Charters is options! Options, options and more options. No matter the weather there is always somewhere to fish and something to chase. The first day we hooked into a school or tuna some 500 metres from the lodge which was great fun. A number of days saw us head right out to the reef to cast reef edges and bommies for coral trout, big tackle destroying GT's, trevally, mackrell, coota, and queenies. The stand out lures when casting around the reef was the Maria Lures Blues Code and the Maria Lures Loaded stick baits. Everything wanted to eat them hence I returned home with none! To mix things up a bit and give the arms a rest from casting stick baits and poppers etc we also anchored and bait fished for a number of reef species ensuring fresh fish was always on the menu that night. Heading back to the island was always fun as on most nights we encountered a school of tuna busting up on the corner of Albany Island only a few hundred metres from home. Casting metals and also drifting and jigging metals resulted in Tuna, Queen Fish, Trevally, GT's, Spangalled Emperor all with in sight of home which you can't ask for better than that.

After a week of awesome fishing action and relaxing island living it was time to head home and to top the trip off Tim and I decided to take a helicopter transfer off the Island accross to Horne Island where wed catch our flight home. It was a real highlight and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the island as to see this part of Australia from a helicopter was sensational.

All in all CY Charters is an amazing fishing lodge and destination that everyone should visit at least once. As one of the most cost effective fishing lodges and a real stand out for value for money I know you won't be dissapointed and Ill definietly be back.

Feel free to call me anytime on 0409 823 070 if you'd like to know more about my trip or discuss how Angling Adventures can get you there.
