On the far North coast of Australia's Northern Territory, Arnhemland is the largest and most remote Aboriginal land reserve in the country. The Lodge is located on the coast of this reserve, near the Aboriginal community of Maningrida, which is approximately 300 kilometres (60 minute flight) to the north east of Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory.
This beautiful area of Arnhemland not only offers exceptional barramundi, the fishing for numerous other species is also sensational. This tour boasts private rights to use to a number of rivers and creeks as well as fish-rich islands and the most superb inland lagoons Northern Territory has to offer. Barramundi is the main target, but there are a number of other saltwater species you may encounter such as mangrove jack, threadfin salmon, long tail tuna, blue salmon, golden snapper, Queenfish, broad-barred mackerel, Spanish mackerel, coral trout, giant trevally, cobia, golden trevally, and even the magnificent sportfish - the giant herring. Freshwater lagoon fishing will also present itself to catch barramundi, Saratoga and tarpon.
All fishing is from our fleet of purpose built, stable Oceanmaster sportfishers, powered by the latest E-Tec outboards and skippered by your own knowledgeable and experienced personal fishing guide.
Being remote in Northern Territories' Arnhemland region you can experience what many regard as the best barramundi fishing anywhere in the world. The high-class safari lodge is the only one in the region. Only people holding permits are allowed entry which are issued by the Aboriginal land owners. It's a very comfortable lodge and is positioned on an fringe escarpment looking directly over the scenic Tomkinson and Liverpool River Valleys.
The luxurious en-suite cabins have been purpose built and are a welcome luxury compared to the unspoilt and remote environment. A main lodge building features a large lounge and dining area with a shady deck and a "Escarpment Bar' to quench your thirst whilst taking in the stunning Tomkinson River Valley.
If the luxurious Deluxe en-suite Cabins are a little out of budget there is also the option of staying in Tropical Habitat Tents, which are also comfortable making your stay more affordable.
Apart from barramundi fishing and other numerous species, the lodge also offer a large variety of things to do for the non-fishing companions. Try your hand at bird watching tours, experience Aboriginal culture and no trip is complete without visiting to the Maningrida Arts & Culture Centre. Here you can buy traditional Arnhemland Aboriginal Artwork at very good prices.
Australia's Northern Territory, is home to Maningrida - Arnhemland. A enormous, unpopulated region where the Aboriginal Corroboree sounds the didgeridoo across the land.
Less than 20,000 people live in the remarkable wilderness of Arnhemland. It is larger than most European nations, up to 1391 it was completely isolated from European settlement when it was acknowledged as an Aboriginal Reserve.
For thousands of years, Aboriginal people have lived in remote isolation.
Most of the region hasn't changed much for thousands of years! The Aborigines still live a traditional life with their old customs, hunting gathering and fishing for food, they do however live in houses and towns and benefit from the mod cons of motorised transport.
The nearest town Maningrida is a 500km drive from Darwin, Northern Territory's capital city. Sitting very central along the coast of Arnhemland it is an ideal location to relax and get away from modern life and fish for some of the best barramundi the world has to offer.
